As part of our exhibition “selbst”, the Filmwerkstatt and we would like to invite you to a film screening and talk with the artist Friedl Kubelka vom Gröller.

Friedl Kubelka vom Gröller is an exceptional artist. Born in London in 1946, she spent her childhood years mainly in East Berlin and Vienna. Today living in Vienna and Paris, her photographic and cinematic work impressively explores human identities. She is widely regarded as a pioneer of conceptual photography and has successfully developed her own visual language as an independent filmmaker.

Kubelka vom Gröller’s cinematic work focuses on the examination of time, transience and ageing. The silent black-and-white films, usually three minutes long, confront the viewer with himself in the mirror of the other in just as consistent a manner as her photographic works.
